Windows NT 4.0 TCP/IP Configuration for DSL

  • Qwest DSL modem users must have the modem set to Bridged Ethernet Mode. Instructions are in the Qwest DSL manual.
  1. On your Desktop, press Start, go to Settings then Control Panel.
    Open the Network Control Panel.




  2. Click on the Protocols tab, then double-click on the TCP/IP protocol.



  3. Check Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.




  4. Click on the DNS tab and enter the following numbers in the DNS Service Search Order.




    Click OK twice to close the Contol Panel and choose Yes to restart your computer and save the changes
  • Disabling your Dial-Up Connection
    In your Control Panels, open Internet or Internet Options. Click on the Connections Tab.

Select Connect to the Internet using a local area network. Then click OK.
  • If your using Internet Explorer 5.x, Select Never Dial a Connection. Your window will be similar to the one below.



    Click on the LAN Settings button.



    Automatically detect settings should already be checked. If the box is not checked, do so. Click OK until you're back to your desktop and you're done.
