Setup Instructions
The SawShop is designed for the business that requires a custom web
site with flexible, easy to use, E-commerce capabilities. This solution
provides the backend processing that would otherwise cost thousands of
dollars to license or develop. Once the web site is completed, no HTML
knowledge is required to maintain it. Simply change the product
information and configuration settings via the password protected SawShop
Maintenance pages. The Vendor web site will then be updated with the click
of a button.
1. Register Vendor Store with
SawNet
New vendor web sites registered with SAW.NET, are assigned a store ID and
password. This provides protected access to the SawShop E-commerce setup
features and maintenance area. The registration fee is a one-time fee of
$350. A Saw.Net Database and SSL web hosting account will be setup for
the vendor.
See Saw.Net Database and SSL Web
Hosting.
Register Vendor Store Here.
2. Enter Vendor Product Information
The Vendor's SawShop site
will be database-oriented. When changes need to be made, simply update the
database with the new information, and the changes will be inserted into
the pages of the web site. It is not required to make any changes to
the HTML code. The information displayed in the shopping cart and order
email are automatically retrieved from the database.
The product information can be entered into SawShop with the following
three methods.
- The vendor product information can stay on the SawShop Server
Database. The vendor can easily enter and update the product
information through the online, password protected Maintenance Area. This
is preferred if the vendor does not have an existing database or
computerized inventory.
- Maintain an existing database at the vendor's office or warehouse.
The information is updated on the SawShop webserver on a regular basis
by exporting product information from the existing database or Excel
files. This requires an export to a simple comma delimited file with the
following product information:
- product ID
- description that goes in shopping cart and order email
- retail price
- wholesale price
- image
- long description
- Connect vendor's ODBC inventory database to the SawShop web server.
The vendor inventory database can be created and maintained by most
popular database products, such as MS Access or Filemaker Pro, or larger
databases such as Oracle or Informix.
3. Configure Vendor Store
The store is configured through the password protected Maintenance Area.
Input sales tax, shipping specifications, and the email address to
which the order information is to be sent. This email includes all
information necessary for the vendor to complete the order.
4. Create or Modify Vendor Web Site
The primary goal of the SawShop is for it to be easily incorporated into
custom web sites. Once a web site designer is enlisted to create or modify
the vendor's web site, the designer will be given detailed information of
how to incorporate the SawShop features.
Sample HTML code is provided for
Web Site Developers. These samples demonstrate the format for inserting
the SawShop features into a vendor's web site.
